Union Minister for women, Maneka Gandhi has issued a warning to Bollywood producers over sexual harassment in the Hindi film industry. She wrote to leading production houses that they were ethically and legally responsible for providing a safe work environment for all staff. She had written 24 letters in all asking production houses to comply with the 2013 sexual harassment act.

The aim of this law was to ensure that no woman is harassed at her workplace and she stressed that this law is to be followed in letter and spirit by all organisations in the country. She said that she was unhappy due to the prevalence of couch culture in Bollywood where young aspiring actresses were given roles in exchange for sexual favours. However it was not talked about openly and it remains a hush hush affair.
