Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi from the Patna High Court is all set to become the new Chief Justice of the Madras High Court. He will take charge on or before November 13th. At present the Madras High Court has an acting CJ for the past 40 days.
Normally this practice should not exceed a month. After Justice Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani put in her papers, the senior most judge Vineet Kothari was made the acting CJ and though he sat in Court Hall No 1, to conduct judicial proceedings, he didn’t use the chamber of the CJ but continued using his own chamber attached to Court Hall No 2. The appointment of Justice Sahi has brought cheer to the lawyers practicing in the Madras High Court.
