A section of the lawyers practicing in the Madras High Court have decided to stage a demonstration outside the High Court today to urge the Supreme Court Collegium to withdraw it’s decision to transfer Chief Justice Tahilramani. Many others will be convening general body meetings of their respective associations in order to decide the future course of action.
The Madras High Court Advocates Association in Chennai and the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court Bar Association have convened extraordinary general body meetings to discuss the issue. An unprecedented situation has arisen in the country where a Chief Justice has submitted her resignation in protest against her transfer from the Madras High Court to a much smaller Meghalaya High Court. Many members expressed their solidarity with the Chief Justice and will impress upon the Collegium to reconsider it’s decision.
