Madras High Court gets 4 women judges

The Madras High Court strength has gone up to 60 against the sanctioned strength of 75 judges. 6 new judges were sworn in yesterday out of which four of them are women.Justices S.Ramathilagam,R.Tharani,T.Krishnavalli and R.Hemalatha were administered the oath of office by Chief Justice Indira Banerjee at a simple function held at the High Court premises. Advocate General Vijay Narayan delivered the welcome address and leaders of various associations welcomed the new judges.

With this appointment, the strength of women judges gets a boost and the proportion of women judges has jumped to 18.33% from 12.96%.This figure may go up if more women are appointed to fill the 15 vacancies.
