Koneru Humpy wins women’s world rapid championship

Indian Grandmaster Koneru Humpy has won the World Women’s Rapid Chess Championship title. After drawing the Armageddon game against Lei Tingjie of China held at Moscow. The 32 year old Indian took a break from chess from 2016 to 2018 when she gave birth to a daughter Ahana. She returned after a 2 year break and with the help of both parents and in – laws who also live in Vijayawada, she managed to make a comeback.
Her parents said that her victory was due to the fruits of her labour. They were thrilled and extremely happy that their daughter won a World title after a long time. Her previous world title was in 2001 when she won the Under 20 championship at the age of 14. This is her first big win after her marriage. Her husband who is an engineer by profession said that the win meant a lot to them.
