Kerala nun declared a saint

Sister Mariam Thresia who belonged to the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family was declared a saint by Pope Francis. The nun who hailed from Thrissur district was canonised along with a few others on Sunday at a grand ceremony held at the Vatican City. Around 300 nuns from the congregation along with the family members of the nun attended the function together with the Indian delegation led by the Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muralidharan, MP T.N.Prathapan and former Supreme Court Judge Kurien Joseph.
As the ceremony was taking place in the Vatican City, thousands of devotees gathered at her tomb at the Kuzhikkatussery shrine and at her birth place at Puthenchira in Kerala. She was beatified in 2000 and the Pope approved of the miracle attributed to her in 2009. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Sister Miriam was a matter of pride for every Indian.
