BJP State President Tamilisai Soundararajan has filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking to declare the election of Kanimozhi as Member of Parliament from the Thoothukudi constituency as null and void. She alleged that there were many discrepancies in the affidavits filed by Kanimozhi and that the District Collector who is also the District Electoral Officer should have rejected them.

One discrepancy is that Kanimozhi had mentioned in her poll affidavit that her name was enrolled as a voter in Chepauk, Triplicate, constituency but in another place in the same affidavit, she had mentioned it as Thoothukudi. Another discrepancy alleged by Tamilisai was that, the declaration by Kanimozhi that her husband and son do not have Permanent Account Number in India and their income has been shown as ” Not  Applicable” during the last five years when she should have stated the income particulars of both husband and son with relevant papers from Singapore where they are citizens. The third accusation was that the voters in the constituency were distributed cash of Rs 2000/.
