The Income Tax Department had attached four immovable properties belonging to former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 2007. The attached properties include her Poes Garden residence named Veda Nilayam,  a commercial space at Parson Manere on Anna Salai, a  property on St  Mary’s Road and a house in Hyderabad Srinagar colony.

However the government pleaded ignorance and said that they were not aware of such an attachment and it was news to them. The Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Central Circle filed a counter affidavit stating that the late CM’s wealth tax dues were Rs 10.12 crores and her Income Tax dues amounted to Rs 6 62 crores for the assessment years 2005,06 to 2011- 2012.
