Pakistan said that it would allow the wife and mother of alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav to visit him in jail on humanitarian grounds on December 25th. They will be accompanied by an official from the Indian Embassy. Earlier only his wife was granted permission but our government requested that his mother also be permitted to visit him.
Jadhav was a former Navy official who was apprehended by Pakistan law enforcement agencies on March 3rd,2016,after he allegedly crossed the border.After a swift and controversial trial by a Pakistani military tribunal, hr was awarded death sentence. His clemency appeal is pending before Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa for the past 4 months. India approached the International Court of Justice against the conviction and secured a stay.
