Prithika Yashini was the first transgender who was appointed as a Sub Inspector to the Tamil Nadu Police force. She took charge at the Choolaimedu Police Station. She promised to discharge her duties without fear or favour. She was born in a village in Salem to a tailor. She dreamt of becoming a police officer as a child.She had to cross a lot of hurdles to achieve her goal. Her application was initially rejected because of her gender.

She approached the Madras High Court which ordered the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board to accept her application. She was selected for the post of Sub Inspector and was posted in Dharmapuri as a trainee SI after she completed one year of rigorous training in Chennai.She has been assigned regular duties like any other Sub Inspector  at the Choolaimedu station where she is currently posted.
