India’s first professionally curated event for children, the WMF will be held on the sprawling lawns of the Bhartiya City near Hebbal. The festival curation is segmented to accommodate three age zones: 0–3 called Infants & Toddlers, 4–7 called Little Explorers, 8–11 years called pre teens. This curated event is being sponsored by some of India’s largest brands. Horlicks has come on board as nutrition partner as this outdor festival reemphasises the Horlicks offering of TALLER STRONGER SHARPER, Tata Motors and Trio World Academy amongst a host of other partners.

Speaking about the WMF, Swaroop Banerjee, Festival Director and the co-founder of Mumbai-based Tribe Asia which has conceoutualized the festival said, “Today a three year old can open up YouTube, the music folders or PeppaPig at the drop of a hat. Data shows that the first exciting & colourful object for urban children is not grass or flowers or the pond frog. It is a tablet or a smart phone.Urban parents take their children to malls or entertainment complexes about 35 out of 52 weekends on an average. Data says that kids hardly get to experience nature. Urban Indian children who are surrounded by concrete have missed out on playing on green grass,” he added.

Swaroop further stated, “We at the WMFare outdoors, have over 15 workshops, baby proof zone, aero modelling and a concert arena. There is a dad’s garage complete with a putting green for mini golf and a relaxing lounge for the moms. An air-conditioned day centre complete with a feeding lounge, a toddler area with a play gym, ball pit and trampolines”. They also have a Lego area, puppetry and areas for the parents. Kids between four and seven could participate in the Do Something Art Studio by Marilyn George.

The oldest lot, the eight to 11-year-olds, who are probably “hooked on to secondhand touch phones that parents grant them use of” will be helped to “unlearn, un-tech and feel the soil” with a series of workshops, from Recycled art, claywork, dreamcatcher making, quilling, pottery etc. The day one headline act will have one of India’s most celebrated act The Raghu Dixit Project. Opening of the TRDP is Bangalores current kids rock sensation Symphonic Eternity who have been featured in Rolling Stone Maganize India.

The event, Banerjee says, have specifically been designed to help wean kids away from phones, reconnect to the outdoors and their parents. They can also hang out with their fathers in the ‘garage’, where he can play mechanic and teach his children how to fiddle around with tools and vehicles and more. Moms can relax in the ‘mom’s lounge complete with UNO decks and a tarrot card reader.

At WMF, Mirza Baigh, Co Founder and Director IP and a Bangalorean by heart and soul adds that after thorough research and insights that drive to choose a festival destination, Bangalore was chosen for WMF, the cosmopolitan culture, expat movement, urban parents on the constant look out for unique kids experiences make this city an easy choice, moreever Baig adds that “a lot of festivals from other cities come to Bangalore, but we wanted an interntional children’s festival to have this city as it’s home”
