In what can be described as a rare event, the marriage of a Hindu couple was solemnised in a mosque in Kerala. The couple exchanged garlands at a mosque in Alappuzha.

The marriage was hosted by the Cheruvally Muslim Jamaat mosque. Hindu rituals were performed in front of a traditional lamp with guests from both communities. The bride Anju and groom Sarath created history and the occasion signified communal harmony. A vegetarian sadya was held in the premises for about 1000 people. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan congratulated the couple on Facebook and was happy that the State of Kerala showcased examples of communal harmony. He conveyed his best wishes to the couple and their families. In fact it was the mosque committee which sponsored the wedding as the bride Anju was from a poor economic background after Anju’s mother sought their help. The mosque committee gifted 10 sovereigns of gold and Rs 2 lakhs as a wedding gift to the bride.
