After the amendments in the Motor Vehicles Act, it has become mandatory for children above 4 years traveling as pillion riders on two wheelers to wear helmets. There are plans to increase penalties for various traffic violations. According to the police, many parents were going scot- free and getting away without paying any fine for ferrying kids without helmets.

From now onwards, it has been made compulsory for children to wear helmets no matter where they go. This measure will also ensure the safety of the children who ride pillion on two wheelers. The fines for violation have been increased substantially from Rs 100 to Rs 1000/ and will be implemented shortly.
