HEART OF GOLD – A fundraiser for the rehabilitation of Chennai flood victims

Superstar and Padma Vibhushan, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan was in Chennai recently for a very specific purpose, as the guest of honour at a charity event of a well-known NGO of our city, to help raise funds for resurrecting the lives of people affected by the Chennai floods.

It was an evening filled with a sense of purpose as the wonderful people of Chennai came together at Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park, to demonstrate an undying spirit of humanity that was exhibited during the Chennai floods. The city might seem to be back on its feet but the truth is that a lot of people still remain affected. They have lost their homes, their families and their livelihoods and need all the help possible to piece their lives back together. That is exactly was this evening was all about.

A charity event to raise funds for the rehabilitation of flood victims, the event was aptly titled ‘Heart of Gold’. It was supported by top jewellers across the country like Nirav Modi, Prince Jewellery, Jaipur Gems, Ahalya, Viswa & Devji, Nathella, NAC, GRT, Chennai Diamonds, Mehta Jewellery, Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers, Caratlane, Kirtilals, Ahalya, P. Modi and Ziva Jewellers, who came forward with benevolence and donated jewellery that was then auctioned.

Mr. Amitabh Bachchan graciously said that he felt privileged to be part of this heart warming event and joked that it wouldn’t have been possible without the persuasive powers of Mrs. Suhasini Maniratnam, who was the charming as the compere for the evening too.

The event was attended by a generous audience, which was in for a visual treat, a Raja Ravi Varma inspired fashion show. This showcased celebrities like Lizy, Krithika Subramanian, Kushboo, Vani Ganapathi, Lakshmi Manchu, Gopika Varma, Jayashree and Priyadarshini Govind. Art was brought to life as these beautiful women, clad in gorgeous saris by designer Neeta Lulla and accompanied by the melodious voice of Bombay Jayashree, portrayed the lives of the strong women in the paintings.
