Remya Sreekanthan, an Assistant Professor at a College of Technology, quit her job and joined as a firefighter in the Chennai airport. The mother of a two year old daughter is the first woman firefighter at the Chennai Airport and the third across the AAI.
According to her, it’s a challenging job with a huge responsibility. She spotted the advertisement issued by the Airports Authority of India when she was on a two year sabbatical to take care of her baby. She applied for the job and got selected in the general category as there was no separate category for women. She was the lone woman trainee in the batch of 100 recruits. After undergoing rigorous training for four months and clearing two tests, she was posted in Chennai. Her family particularly her husband was very supportive and allowed Remya to pursue her dream.
