A great idea to ease traffic in the city would be to have ferry service on the rivers of the city. According to the draft final report of Comprehensive Mobility Plan for the Chennai Metropolitan Area, the water transport system is  proposed along two rivers- Cooum and Adyar rivers. Corridor I will run along Adyar river from Thiru- Vi – Ka bridge to Nandambakkam for a distance of 10.6 kms. Adyar and Satya Nagar will be the terminal interchange locations with the Metrorail.

Corridor ll is proposed along River Cooum from Chennai Park Town to Nemillichery. Park Town and Maduravoyal will be designed as terminal interchange locations. The revival of the ferry services is one of the most sought after desires of the residents of Chennai. However, before any steps are taken in this direction, pollution has to be arrested and widening and desilting  has to be undertaken.
