The Central Bureau of Investigation will take over the case of Fathima and will investigate into the circumstances that led to her death. The Centre had sent a communication to the State government and the State in turn gave it’s consent order.
Till now the case was handled by the Central Crime Branch. Commissioner of Police A. K. Viswanathan referred to demands made from various quarters for entrusting the case to the CBI. The girl’s father suspects some foul play and he met a number of dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Several political parties demanded a transparent and fair probe as allegations were levelled against faculty members of IIT for harassing the student.
