With Ugadi round the corner, how about embracing the old with something new?

The long jacket/ cape

We all have so many old kurtas we have barely used – from forgotten salwar suits, anarkalis and what not. The long jacket is having such a moment because it’s so easy to slip on over anything and it can amp up a regular outfit in an instant– even if it’s just the same old kurta we never wanted to wear.

Add a long flared skirt

Another way to wear a kurta in an unexpected but stylish way is to ditch the leggings and wear it on top of a maxi skirt. It’s such a summer appropriate combination that is effortlessly stylish. Plus, it will make for such a comfy outfit, that you may want to try it even after Ugadi. These are available at Max stores.

The palazzo/dhoti way

Palazzo pants and dhoti have become quite a rage in the Indian wear scene and can instantly give a completely new avatar to the old kurtas. If that’s not your style or you’re not comfy wearing it, then pair an old kurti with bell bottom jeans for a retro chic style.

An avant-garde blouse

Gone are the days of a classic matching sari blouse. Our desi fashion is getting more and more experimental, chic and avant-garde. If you don’t know what to do with an old crop top, think about how you can convert it into a stylish blouse for your saree or a dhoti pant.
