The DMK has bagged the hotly contested , postponed Lok Sabha election from Vellore constituency in North Tamilnadu. It’s candidate Kathiir Anand defeated the AIADMK candidate A.C. Shanmugam by a margin of 8141 votes.  Initially it was Shanmugam who was leading in the neck and neck race.

However Kathiir Anand, the son of Senior DMK leader and former Minister Durai Murugan, caught up in the race and finally overtook Shanmugam by a slender margin. It is said that the DMK managed to edge through because they got a huge chunk of the Muslim votes in Vaniyambadi and Ambur Assembly segments. People were upset due to the dual stand taken by the ruling AIADMK on the triple talaq issue. DMK President M.K .Stalin thanked the voters of Vellore for voting for the DMK candidate.
