A 19 year old student studying in IIT Madras committed suicide three days ago in her hostel room. The girl named Fathima Latheef was pursuing her first year undergraduation course in the humanities stream. According to the police, Fathima had committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan.
Her father Abdul Latheef is employed in Saudi Arabia for the past 25 years. He met the Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan at the Assembly Complex in Thiruvananthapuram and requested for a fair probe into the circumstances leading to his daughter’s death. The Chief Minister assured him that he would take up the matter with the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu as a states issue.
