The Madras High Court has upheld the order of a single judge directing the State government to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakhs to the wife of a policeman who died in service 10 years ago. The case related to a sub inspector who was directed to report to the SP in Jolarpettai in connection with an anti- dacoity operation.
While traveling by train, he suffered chest pain. Even though he was rushed to a hospital in Jolarpettai, he was declared brought dead. His wife claimed compensation of Rs 10 lakhs under the Police Insurance Scheme. A single judge awarded Rs 10 lakhs.The state government filed an appeal against that order. However the Madras High Court upheld the order of the single judge and directed compensation to be paid.
