YOUR MOTHER TONGUE IS TELUGU BUT YOU’VE DONE A NUMBER OF KANNADA MOVIES. IS THERE A REASON FOR THAT?

Yes, my parents are settled in Bangalore. I was born here and I grew up here. A director spotted me at a college event when I was 18 and asked me to audition for a movie. That’s how I entered Kannada movies. My debut movie was ‘Preeti Keli Sneha Kalkobedi’

WHICH KANNADA MOVIE ARE YOU CURRENTLY DOING NOW?

It is called ‘Rugged’ as a female lead role with actor Vinod Prabhakar. It’ll be released this year.

WHAT ABOUT TAMIL MOVIES? ARE YOU DOING ANY?

Well, Tamil movies are dear to me. I am currently shooting a movie with Sibi Raj, son of Sathya Raj.  It’s called ‘Vattam’. It is also scheduled for release this year.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE? HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR FREE TIME?

I officially live in Chennai but commute a lot to Bengaluru to meet my parents and to shoot Kannada movies. My sister lives in Chennai and works for an IT company. So, I don’t feel lonely in Chennai. She gives me company. I also have friends here and in Bengaluru, whom I hang out with. I don’t have many hobbies but I enjoy doing many things and taking life as it comes. I love to try out different cuisines. Luckily, I do not put on weight no matter how much I eat. I relax on the days that I am not out shooting.

ARE YOU CLOSE TO YOUR SISTER?

Yes, however, she does not like glitz and glamour. She is totally opposite to me. She is studious and always desired a non-filmy career.  So, we share many things but she keeps a distance from me on my professional matters.

WHAT KIND OF ROLES DO YOU WANT TO DO? ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC ACTORS OR DIRECTORS YOU’D LIKE TO WORK WITH?

I don’t have any fixed plans. I just want to take life and opportunities in life as they come. I am fine to work with any actor and director as long as the movie script is good and something that I can relate to.

WHAT IF A MOVIE REQUIRES YOU TO MAKE EXTREME SACRIFICES LIKE GOING BALD, WOULD YOU DO IT?

I love my hair a lot, so I’m not sure about going bald but if it is a sacrifice related to acting, such as if someone wants to cast me as a mother, then I can make any number of sacrifices. I even portrayed a negative role in “Yaradi Nee Mohini”. But one thing that I can never sacrifice is the costume part. The first thing I ask before signing a movie is the script and what costume I have to wear. If it is skimpy, which is against my morals, I never do it.

HOW WAS THE TRANSITION FROM TV SERIALS TO ACTING? WAS IT A CONSCIOUS DECISION?

To be honest, I was never after acting as a career but I feel that it is more my destiny. So, I am happy that destiny took me in the direction of movies from serials. But I was also content while I did serials.

ANY NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS?

I intend to talk more in movies (speak my dialogues in a more articulate manner) and talk less in actual life (speak only when needed because that way we can avoid misunderstandings with people).
