The Central Government is likely to extend the lockdown by another two weeks from May 31st but with more relexations. There are 11 cities in the country that account for about 70 percent of Covid 19 cases. They include Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Surat, Indore, Pune, Thane, Ahmedabad and Jaipur.
The rise in cases has posed a great challenge to India’s strained medical capacity and the overburdened health system. This will be lockdown 5. The government has plans to open up religious places of worship and gymnasiums if social distancing is maintained and people wear masks. However, no religious festivals or congregation would be permitted. Malls, schools, colleges, theatres etc will still remain closed.
