The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Justice Indira Banerjee said that the Court cannot interfere with the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speakers decision to put up Jayalalithaa’s portrait in the legislature. She observed that if the people did not approve of the speakers decision to unveil the portrait, it will reflect in the next elections.

She made these observations when a PIL filed by DMK MLA Anbazhagan sought removal of the portrait on the ground that Jayalalithaa was found guilty on corruption charges and that it would become a precedent. The matter was then posted to March 3rd for further hearing.
