Exams are a time when not only kids, but parents too are under stress. Children and parents work hard during exams and deserve a break in the end. As the summer gets closer, many parents may have started planning their annual summer holiday. Amidst the parents’ choices and their child’s demands for the next holiday destination, you may often end up having to settle for nearby or known destinations when planning.

Here’s a list of places, put forth by Aurvind Lama, CEO and Co-founder, Travelyaari that are perfect for children and where parents can unwind at ease.

Manali

Manali is an obvious choice for a place to take your kids to during the summer holidays. Living in cities, children today are far removed from nature and its beauty. Mountains, snow, and all activities fun are on offer at this magnificent destination. Snow scooters, skiing (winters), paragliding are some activities that you can participate in with your child. You can drive up to Rohtang pass, which connects Lauhal with Spiti Valley, and even drive further to Leh. You can trek with your kids to Vashisht Temple to see the hot springs, and visit the Hidimba Temple to experience the local architecture.

Kashmir

The unparalleled beauty of Kashmir is the first thing that will catch your kids’ eyes. The simple lifestyle of Kashmiris, the food and scenic beauty of the place will stay with you and your children for a long time. Kids will especially enjoy the experience of staying in a houseboat; skiing in Gulmarg (seasonal); or horse riding in Aru Valley. Srinagar, Pahalgam, Sonmarg, Yusmarg, and Gulmarg are places that you must visit in Kashmir.

Darjeeling

Summers are the best time to visit Darjeeling to escape the scorching heat and soak in the picturesque view of this quaint hill station. The blue sky, snow-capped mountains, and lush greens of the tea gardens are a sight to behold. Kids would love to take a ride on the famous toy train and enjoy the view along the trail of hills and valleys of Darjeeling.

Kerala

Kerala is the perfect spot for family vacation. Be it the lush hills and tea gardens of Munnar or the backwaters of Allepey or Thekkady, kids will have the best time with some fun activities. If you are in Thekkady, kids can have a fun experience playing with and riding on elephants. Make your visit even more authentic by staying in a houseboat instead of regular hotel rooms. There are plenty of things that you can do in Munnar, like go on short or long treks, hike through the tea gardens, or take a bicycle ride.

Aurangabad

Aurangabad is home to two important UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Ajanta and Ellora Caves. There are some things that a school curriculum may not teach that travel can. So, take your child to see this amazing m of Indian history and art and learn more about our country’s vast cultural history. Aurangabad has many other places nearby worth visiting such as Bibi Ka Makbara (a smaller replica of the Taj Mahal), or the Guatala Sanctuary and the Salim Ali Lake and Bird Sanctuary that will be enjoyable experiences for your children.

Hampi, Karnataka

One of the most fascinating sites in South India is Hampi. Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, it boasts of a rich historical past. A visit to the ancient city, unfortunately in ruins now, will be an enjoyable history lesson for your kids that we assure they won’t be bored with. You can visit any of the old temples, go rock climbing or visit the Hampi waterfalls.

Sikkim

This is definitely one of the lesser-explored family destinations in India. Home to the majestic Himalayas, pure natural beauty and several ancient monasteries, Sikkim is an experience in itself. Take your kids to Nathu La Pass and to interior towns like Pelling and Lachun to give them a slice of the life in Sikkim. It’s safe and clean environment and welcoming locals make it a wonderful and enjoyable destination for kids. You can visit Tsongmo Lake, river raft on Teesta river, cable car ride in Gangtok or take a Yak safari.

Corbett National Park

Jim Corbett National Park is the perfect opportunity for you to get your kids close to nature and experience it in its pure form. With a plethora of excellent flora and fauna, it is one of the best national parks of India and home to the regal Indian Tiger. Take a safari ride through the park, and if you’re lucky enough, you may even spot a tiger. Bird-watching, forest-stays, camping are some of the other activities you can partake in while at Corbett.
