Jagruth scripts history as first player to win medals in two events. Master MP Jagruth has made India proud as he won a Gold Medal (Kata) for India at the 10th World Karate Youth Cup-2017 at Umag, Croatia. The event was organised by the World Karate Federation where karatekas from 40 countries had participated. Jagruth also won Silver Medal (Kumite) for India in the 10th World Karate Youth Cup -2017 at Umag (Croatia) organised by the World Karate Federation in which Karatekas from 30 countries had participated. The championship was held between June 26 to July 2, 2017. The World Karate Championship is one of the most prestigious and challenging tournaments with 54 categories of events for both male and females. By winning these two medals, Jagruth scripted history as the first player to win medals in both the events.

Master Jagruth, pride of India, had participated n Kata Male U-12 Years category where he secured the first place for India, the second and third places were bagged by Karatekas from Bulgaria. Jagruth had also participated in Kumite U12 – 40 Kgs Category where the first place went to a Karateka from Russia, second for India (Jagruth) and third place was jointly shared by contestants from Croatia and Latvia. Jagruth who is aged only 11 Years and 8 months is studying in sixth grade at Indian Public School, Vignan Nagar, Bengaluru. To reach finals, Jagruth had to clear five rounds. The finale matches were very tough as both the events were back to back and in every round, Jagruth had to perform new kata’s and there was not much time for preparing for the next event Kumite. There was only a time gap of 2-3 minutes between the finals of Kata and Kumite. Jagruth says, “I am happy that I have got the first gold and silver medal for India in the World Karate Championships. My dream is to go for Olympics and win a medal for my country. I want to popularise this martial art in India as this sports has not been given the recognition it needs.” Jagruth’s father MG Prasad, Master trainer of Zen Sports and Fitness and also an international karate gold medalist is his inspiration and feels that it was a proud moment for all Indians as Jagruth went on the stage to receive his award in Croatia. It was the first gold and silver medal for India at the World Karate Championship and also a world record as Jagruth won medals in both the categories. “As a coach and as a father, it is a very big honour,” he added. MP Jagruth is the new hope for Karate among kids as he has won a series of awards in the recent past. Jagruth, says that his passion for Karate was inspired by a number of Karate-based movies. Jagruth has won many laurels and awards consistently so far.

JAGRUTH’s ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Won a Bronze Medal for India in the 9th World Karate Youth Cup- 2016 at Umag, Croatia Organised by the World Karate Federation.
  • Won a Gold Medal for India in the Commonwealth Karate Championship, New Delhi, organised by the Commonwealth Karate Federation. In this Championship around 18 countries had participated.
  • Won a Silver Medal for India at Singapore in the 14th Asia Pacific Shito-Ryu Karate Championship 2014, organised by the World Shito- Ryu Karate Association.
  • Made a record in Nationals by winning a Gold Medal in Kata & Silver Medal in Kumite in 2015
  • National Champion in Kata for 3 consecutive years in the KAI National Karate Championship for Sub-Junior Cadet, Junior
  • State Champion in Kata and Kumite for 5 consecutive years in the Karnataka Sub-Junior Karate Championship
  • Awarded as the Under 10 All Round Championship from school during the year 2015 on Annual Sports Day.
  • Participated in more than 50 Karate Championships in both Kata and Kumite Category all over India and abroad.
  • Represented Karnataka in the 6th South India Gymnastics Championship-2013, Gachibowli, Andhra Pradesh.
  • Practising karate from past 5 years under the guidance of MG Prasad, Master Trainer, Zen Sports & Fitness
