Bengaluru boy is World Karate Champion

Master MP Jagruth has made India proud as he won a Silver Medal (Kata) for India at the Karate1 Youth Premier League-2018 at Sofia, Bulgaria. The event was organised by the World Karate Federation where karatekas (players) from 74 countries had participated. The championship was held between May 25th to 27th, 2018. The World Karate Championship is one of the most prestigious and challenging tournaments with 1870 participants across the world both male and females had participated. By winning this medal, Jagruth scripted history as the first Indian Karate Player to secure 5th Ranking in under 14 Years Kata Category and 23rd Ranking in -45 Kgs Kumite Category in the world. Master MP Jagruth is the only player across the world to secure world ranking in both Kata and Kumite Divisions.
Master Jagruth, pride of India, had participated in Kata Male U-14 Years category where he secured the Second place for India, the first place was bagged by Sweden and third places were shared among Italy and USA. Jagruth who is aged only 13 Years is studying in seventh grade at Indian Public School, Vignan Nagar, Bengaluru.
To reach finals, Jagruth had to clear five rounds, there were 48 players in his category. The finale matches were between Sweden and India. Jagruth had to perform new kata’s in every round. Master Jagruth had also participated in Kumite, in -45 kgs category and there were 45 players. He cleared 2 rounds and lost against Russia in the 3rd round. As there was not much time between Kumite match and finals of Kata Match and there was less time for breath in for the preparation of the final match of Kata. Hence, he had to satisfy with the Silver. But, Jagruth still gave a tough competition and a close call to the Sweden who won the gold in Kata.
Jagruth says, “I am happy that I have got the silver medal for India in the Karate1 Youth League, but at the same time still I am not satisfied only for this. My dream is to go for Olympics and win a Gold Medal for my country. I want to popularise this martial art in India as this sports is not recognized in India.”
MP Jagruth is the new hope for Karate among kids as he has won a series of awards in the recent past. Jagruth, says that his passion for Karate was inspired by a number of Karate-based movies and his father Prasad. Jagruth has won many laurels and awards consistently so far.
