The Child Adoption Regulatory Authority issued a circular barring applicants in a live in relationship from adopting a child on the ground that individuals in live in relationships cannot provide a stable family. The Authorities have now decided to do away with the ban and they withdrew the circular.

Now applications from prospective adoptive parents will be examined on a case by case basis said the Secretary of the Women and Child Development Ministry. This decision will benefit both domestic and International applicants. While single women are permitted to adopt a child of any gender,  single men can adopt only boys. For married couples seeking to adopt, they should give their consent for adoption and prove that their marriage is stable.
