Asylum seeker gets offers

Rahaf Mohammed Al Qunun who is seeking asylum in order to escape from alleged abuse from her family, has been offered asylum by many countries including Australia and Canada. Thailand’s immigration police chief told reporters that the UN was accelerating the case but had no idea when the process would be completed.

The United Nations has granted her a refugee status for the time being. Her case has brought to light the plight of women and their rights in Saudi. Many women who tried to flee were caught and were forced to return home. It is said that she is receiving a lot of death threats. Countries like Australia and Canada are in talks with the UN refugee agency to accept her into their country.
