According to defence sources, the normal limit for eligibility for receiving pension for army staff is 20 years for officers and 15 years for Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks. The Army is now open to giving pension to women officers who have finished the pensionable service limit. As regards the Permanent Commission, about 322 women officers have approached the Supreme Court on the issue.

The government had given physical and physiological limitations regarding the grant of command positions to women officers. The Supreme Court has observed that there should be a” change in the mindset”. However, a source stated that the women who have finished pensionable service will be considered for pension but cannot be granted Permanent Commission as the terms of service under which they were recruited were different.
