Amway Opportunity Foundation celebrates Louis Braille Day in association with National Association for Blind IDBI Polytechnic

Presents booklets ‘Ma Se Ma Tak’ a guide to parenting of visually challenged children

Amway Opportunity Foundation, a registered non-profit organization and the corporate social responsibility arm of Amway India, celebrated Louis Braille Day in association with National Association for Blind (NAB) IDBI Polytechnic, Ambernath.The celebration marks the 207th centenary celebration of Louis Braille, who is credited for the invention of Braille system which enables the visually-challenged to read as well as write.

Amway Opportunity Foundation will be organizing Louis Braille Day across 11 locations in India including Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Kolkata, Narendrapur, Patna, Guwahati, Mumbai, Raipur, Ahmedabad, Madurai & Trivandrum.

On this occasion, AOF distributed a special book titled named ‘Ma Se Ma Tak’ – a guide for the parents of new born visually challenged children. The booklet provides informative reading material to the parents for the overall development of their visually challenged children. The book offers illustrations to  guide parents so that bring-up their wards in the best possible manner.

The book has been published by All Indian Confederation of Blind. Amway Opportunity Foundation has translated the book in Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi and English. With an objective to maximize its utility, Amway Opportunity Foundation is distributing it free to the parents of visually challenged children along with the help of more than 11 NGO partners.

AOF celebrated Louis Braille day by organizing Braille reading, writing competition and elocution competition for 100  visually challenged students of NAB IDBI Polytechnic.  Students were divided in different categories and their basic knowledge on Braille reading & writing was put to test.  In addition students also participated in variety of sports activities like Chess competition, long jump, throw ball, sack race etc Thirty two winners were announced from all the competitions and prizes were given to them.

On the occasion Mr. Sandeep Prakash, Regional Head – West, Amway India, said, “I am impressed by the exceptional talent exhibited by the students in various competitions. The importance of Braille is immense as it is the most fundamental format of communication for the visually challenged. It provides them an opportunity to function parallely with the sighted people and contribute in multiple spheres of the society. Amway Opportunity Foundation has been relentlessly working for the cause of visually challenged.  In partnership with NAB, AICB other NGOs, our foundation have been able to benefit more than 100,000 visually challenged students. We appreciate efforts by AICB on this special booklet ‘Ma Se Ma Tak’, which is a beautiful initiative to support parents of visually challenged children
