956 young champions eye to set a new Guinness world record for the largest tennis lesson during Aircel Chennai Open 2017!

The Aircel Chennai Open in association with Boost successfully conducted the ‘largest tennis lesson’ here at the SDAT Stadium on Tuesday, giving tennis lessons to over 950 kids from different parts of the city at the same time at one venue.

Powered by Boost, as part of their ‘Play a Bigger Game’ campaign, they created a giant opportunity for kids to learn tennis and also interact and play with leading tennis players from across the world.

As many as 100 kids were later handpicked by prominent coaches to take part in the ‘Play with the Pros’ activation, allowing them to hit it out with the players. As part of the event the kids got a chance to play with the leading tennis players like Leander Peas and Rohan Bopanna. The players shared tips on how to play the game with the kids motivating them to think like champions.

Interestingly, the current record of 803 kids being taught tennis at the same time, which is acknowledged by the Guinness World Records, was set in 2015 in Liverpool, United Kingdom. The Aircel Chennai Open and Boost surpassed that number very easily as enthusiastic kids thronged the SDAT Stadium to be part of this historic occasion.

Officials from Guinness World Records were present to monitor and record the entire effort and to ensure that all stipulated rules and regulations were followed. They will now send the details to their head office who will evaluate the data and confirm that a new record has been set.

Speaking on surpassing the current Guinness World Record, IMG- Reliance Spokesperson said, “We are humbled by the huge participation and interest shown by the kids and youth of Chennai which surely is the home of Indian Tennis. ‘Play the Pros’ has been a wonderful activity in association with Boost and we are glad to inspire children and give them an opportunity to be a part of a World Record at Aircel Chennai Open.”

Commenting on the kids’ achievement, Mr Prashant Pandey, EVP – Marketing, GSK Consumer Healthcare, said: “Stamina, energy and winning are synonymous with Boost and that’s how we have been successfully striking a chord with kids for over 40 years now. We are extremely overwhelmed with the participation that the activity witnessed and are confident that we have beaten the world record. Boost as a brand believes in directly talking to the kids and their aspirations, and fuelling their wining spirit by providing the stamina to win. I’m glad that we could give kids an opportunity to ‘unleash the winner’ in them at an event as prestigious as this because when it comes to tennis in India, it doesn’t get any bigger than the Aircel Chennai Open.”
