20 Afghan women officers are in Chennai for a special 20 day military training programme that began on December 4th. They are being trained in logistics, basic communication, weapon handling, leadership training and warfare tactics. At the Officers Training Academy at Chennai, the women were taught how to handle an AK-47 at the shooting range. The Officers are in the ranks of Major, first and second lieutenant and are between 21 to 40 years of age. The women speak Pashto or Dari and are finding their training programme interesting as they do not have much exposure to ammunition in Afghanistan.

A few women have enrolled in the armed forces but the women are scared to come out of their homes due to the presence of terrorism. That is the reason why they are undergoing rigorous training in Chennai in order to strengthen the military.
