A matter of taste & style

Mbessy interiors

Who doesn’t love a little luxury in their dining experience? The city’s latest addition, M’bessy Kitchen & Bar is certainly setting the standard for fine dining. With interiors of white and beige, wooden floors, and tasteful lighting the resto bar offers a rather generous splash of elegance and class.

Hoping to incorporate their love for food, wine and a good time together in one package, owner Dinesh Raj and business partner Nitya Ganesh leapt head-on into the restaurant business without a second thought. Homonymous to the city’s most loved beach ‘Bessy’, M’Bessy tugs at the heart strings of the true blue Chennaiite looking to indulge. Divided into the fine dining area and the bar, each segment is distinct in its own right. The dining area hints at an English dining room experience, while the bar offers a more relaxed ambience with plush leather sofas, comfy bar stools and a private party room.

Pork ribs

Enclosed in what looks like a photo frame, the starters menu is a medley of flavours from Mexico, the Mediterranean and good ol’ America. The Mozzarella Stuffed Mushrooms, Prawns Dynamite and M’Bessy Chicken are the perfect pair ups with a glass of your favourite liquor. The main food menu is largely dominated by Italian and French flavours. The Fettucine Nepolitane and the wood-fired Pizza Verdue certainly do the Executive Chef Arun Chandrasekaran credit. But it is the Slow Cooked Spiced Pork Ribs that are phenomenal. Seeped in deep flavour, the succulent ribs are a delight to eat as it falls off the bone.

For the tipplers, Head Bartender Dilip Kumar recommends his favourites Elite Sour and Royal Tea Punch. Their rendition of Whiskey Sour – the Elite Sour, has a sprinkle of nutmeg and a couple of other twists while staying true to the classic. The Royal Tea Punch, a vodka based drink, does offer a certain amount of theatrics but is a little too heavily spiced.

Those with a sweet tooth don’t have to feel left out as the menu does include dessert classics like Pannacotta, Sticky Date Pudding and Tiramisu. The deconstructed Tiramisu, however, is an absolute stunner both visually and in terms of taste.

M’Bessy soon hopes to experiment with molecular gastronomy on a regular basis, endorsing Dinesh’s objective of a new dining experience every time. With each plate spelling finesse and perfection, this resto bar does stay true to its motto of being a ‘Republic of Gastronomy.’
