A century of Polka dots

Polka dots are back on the fashion trend this year thanks to the catwalk by hundreds of models across the globe. But, what makes polka dots iconic? The word in Polish/Czech translates to ‘woman’, which makes sense, given the polka dots is very feminine. In 1926 Miss America wore the first polka dots in the form of a bikini. This was followed by Disney’s Minnie Mouse wearing a polka dress in 1928. Marilyn Monroe also wore a polka dot bikini, and who doesn’t remember Julia Roberts as Vivienne in the hit 90’s movie Pretty Woman? From Emma Stone to Kate Middleton, many famous women have worn polka. You too must have this in your wardrobe either in tops or dress form.
