While beauty is only skin deep might hold true for many beauty pageant winners, it doesn’t hold true for this Bengaluru girl. Roopamouli Mysore is more than just a pretty face. She recently won the Mrs India United Nation pageant and would be representing India at the global international world pageant at Moscow on September 14. The United Nation Pageant focuses on volunteer work. Each contestant must have a background in volunteer work for their community. If they are chosen to represent the country they receive the titles. The United Nation pageant has a category for every woman because they believe every woman has a voice at every stage of life.

The Mrs India United Nation pageant crowning was held at Delhi recently where the participants were judged based on interviews, talent rounds, presentation and introduction. Excited about her winning the title and wearing the crown, Roopamouli shares, “I feel happy to say that I have been crowned Mrs. INDIA UNITED NATION Elite by the Director of United Nations India at The Piccadilly Hotel in Delhi. The title gives me a responsibility to work in the interests of people helping them lead a dignified life, serve the community and make at least a small bit of difference in other people’s life. As the founder of the NGO Sahaya Hastha we work on cervical health and care among rural women where we help prevent cervical cancer through awareness and screening camps (pap smear) done in villages around Bengaluru. I feel this title would give me a larger voice and also help reach out to a larger number of people to help them.”

With a degree in Agriculture, Roopamouli is the founder of the charity organisation Sahaya Hastha the helping hands, working on a comprehensive care of cervical health among rural women. She was honoured in 2016 by cancer care India for her contribution in promoting cervical health. She was also felicitated with the Achievers award at the Mrs and Miss Karnataka pageant for her contribution to the community in 2016. Along with Fog fashion studio, she is bringing about a coffee table book called Transform which is a book to celebrate cancer survivors. The book will show the cancer fighters in a glamorous way, a way we generally don’t visualise them. The director of Estate club and resorts and Smilee green international, a real estate venture, Roopamouli is also the promoter of the eco campaign called Go green stay clean which contributes towards a cleaner greener and garbage free Bengaluru. She adds on her contribution to the society, “I’ve also worked for the state government under the Danish international devolopment agency under their WYTEP Project Women and Youth Training Extension Programme contributing towards agriculture devolopment in rural areas, focusing on keeping the rural youth and women of the farming community abreast with new technology and scientific methods of farming. I am also the state coordinator for Uthhan an NGO working towards unifying financially weaker skilled artisans and providing an online platform for their products. I want to set up physical outlets for selling their artisan products without any hassles, create housing, education and insurance benefits for artisan families under Uthhan.”
