A 7 year old girl from Ambur made headlines when she lodged a police complaint against her father for not building a toilet inside their house. The girl named Hanifa Zaara succeeded in getting a toilet not only for her house but for 100 other residences near her place as well.

Toilets were built in a day’s time under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. She was then made the ” Swachch Ambassador” for the Ambur Municipality. She has now become the Ambassador of WinS programme of Rotary Club. The Rotary Club Wash in Schools programme was started in the year 2017 to celebrate 100 years of the Rotary Foundation. It was a project that aimed to provide school children with clean drinking water, toilets and handwash stations.
