The portrayal of mothers has always been prominent in Kollywood films, owing to our distinct family-oriented themes. The mothers of Kollywood added the much-needed element of Amma in cinema and even the actress who is on top of the game right now has played the role of a mother. Here we have the list of Kollywood actress who played mommy.

Nayanthara

In Maya Nayanthara as Apsara, plays the role of a single mother who struggles to raise her kid. The neo-noir horror-thriller broke many stereotypes usually associated with the genre. It was Nayanthara’s first major attempt at going solo and it marked the beginning of a new era. 

Samantha

Theri sees Samantha as Mithra opposite Vijay. Her role in the film was a major one and she played the role of Vijay’s wife in the plot, who was murdered by Vijay’s antagonist.

Trisha

In Yennai Arindhaal, Trisha plays the role of Hemanika a classical dancer and a single mother. She falls in love with Sathyadev (Ajith) but was murdered by his antagonist and the child is taken care of Ajith.

Amala Paul

In Amma Kanakku, Amala Paul plays the role of Shanti, a widowed single mother who works as a maid to provide her daughter a better life. The mother does so much to make her daughter study and finally succeeded at it. The film portrayed the struggles of the single mom.

Aishwarya Rajesh

Aishwarya gained fame after Kaaka Mutta in which she played a mother of two. She was natural and flawless. The movie was a huge success and it bagged her many awards and recognition. Her performance gave life to the character and portrayed the typical life of people in poverty.

Manju Warrier

Manju Warrier made her Tamil debut in Asuran alongside Dhanush. She played the role of Pachaiyamal a mother to three.  She is bold and boldness doesn’t necessarily mean loud, and that’s Pachaiyammal’s huge strength. She is self-made and has a mind of her own.
