2 Indian women on U.K’s prize list for fiction

Two Indian women are among 16 in the world to stand a chance to win the UK Annual Women’s Prize for Fiction. Arundhati Roy’s second work of fiction The Ministry of Utmost Happiness and Meena Kandasamy’s tale of a violent marriage, When I hit you, are in the running for the 30,000/pounds prize set up to celebrate excellence and originality by women writers in English throughout the world.

Sarah Sands,a BBC editor and chair of the judges said that “women of the world are a literary force to be reckoned with”. The other judges are British-Indian journalist and broadcaster Anita Anand, comedian Katy Brand, Women’s Equality Party cofounder Catherine Mayer and actor Imogen Stubbs. The award ceremony will be held on June 6th in London.
